Okiki Akinfe
Akinfe's practise explores social body language within human social interactions, to explain ideas of archetypal behaviour, questioning, un-proving stereotypes, responding to how these archetypes and projections displays or should be subverted. Also having Interest in the Animus Projection which is Carl Jung’s theory about how your unconscious self is formed by the opposite sex. Her work further comments on ideas of creating space within her practice to provide independent existence. Conceptually involving all the themes mentioned before but in the context world building. Compositing and documenting files exists as works detailing the history of diasporic living, seeking to go further beyond ideals of just existing as Black British, “fictioning” to create these landscapes. The environmental landscape of these works exist as characters themselves within these worlds as reflections of human behaviour and psyche, contributing to conversations in which the figures within the paintings are both invisible and unvisible. Ideally carving out a space for these figures to now exist in a non-social geographical spaces.
